WAS: Alive but whining NOW: Mixed year car exhaust

I found a new noise today. Well actually it's a noise I've heard ricers
make but it's different when you're sitting on it. Coming back from TT
with a short shift kit and new mount rubber the rattling cat threw a
hair ball out the bottom of the muffler. So I am definitely replacing
pretty much the whole thing. Also the radiator cap (I think) chose this
time to fail and now stranded it outside a muffler shop (after getting a
quote) with about a liter less coolant waiting for the weather to cool down.

I would like to stick a new muffler on and put a pipe in place of the
cat but I don't weld and I doubt a mechanic would do it even temporarily
so it doesn't ruin a perfectly decent muffler in the next two weeks. Any
suggestions on that front?

I'm still clueless on what exhaust (all the way from block to tail pipe)
will fit this car. Just that a 2" muffler might be a temporary stop gap
to save my ears.
