i went through the same thing a couple of years back with my car.  the
other insurance co owes you replacement value for your car.  that
includes any mods you've done, but doesn't cover "routine
maintenence".  don't argue that there wasn't $1800 in damage; argue
that it can't be replaced for that money.  when i asked how they
valued the car, they said that they used book value.  i said my car
was worth more than book value, because it was difficult to find one
in such good condition.  i said if they could replace the car with
something in the same condition, we could talk.  of course, there were
no sciroccos for sale in georgia. i gave them a list of my mods, plus
appraisals of other listers' cars that they had done.  ended up
getting $4500.
