There is a stock expansion chamber in the VW arsenal; I think it's called a 'mid-muffler'. It goes post cat and pre-muffler, right before the axle. It's supposed to quiet things a great deal, and if the aftermarket system is larger than stock (diameter wise) it'll offset any restrictive nature another 'something' in the flow might have. $0.02 TBerk
