[FOOLISHNESS] VW's Gone Wild



They can search the passenger compartment without a warrant if they have
probable cause, and finding the camera would be reason enough to take it.  I
would almost be willing to bet, too, that the dude was filming the cop when
he came up to the car.  Cops hate that, but everyone (skaters, street
racers, etc) always want to do it.
As far as it being valid evidence, I say no way.  It could possibly be used
to support a general reckless driving charge, though.
