Best adhesive for rear-view mirror?

I've used both Loctite and 3M products from a local autostore and my
impression was that the 3M was marginally better. Just enough so that if
it was there and maybe a dollar more I'd probably buy it, but I wouldn't
waste my time driving around trying to find it if only the loctite stuff
was available.

The important part (as I see it) is how carefully you prep and glue the
button. Mark the outside of the windshield with a square of tape, then
use a razor and solvent to remove all traces of the old glue from the
windshield and the button. Let it dry/evaporate completely. Glue on a warm
day, when the glass is not cold to the touch.. if possible. Don't go nuts
with the applicator thing, but make sure you get the stuff on as much of
the glass area that the button will be touching as possible (try not to go
outside that area because it will show when the mirror is installed..
that's why marking carefully with the tape is a good idea)

I always glue the button without the mirror attached to it, being careful
not to get the glue on my fingers. Press hard for about 60 seconds (mostly
so that the button doesn't move) and then let go gently. Wait a few hours
then re-attach the mirror.

I've had good luck with this method. The last time mine fell off was when
I had a parking pass hanging on it and I hit an absolutely brutal
speedbump (somehow I didn't see it.. it was dark) at about 30 mph. To make
matters worse, the mirror landed right in my lap. Ouch!
