Need to replace climate controls

Don't recommend it. I believe it mounts differently and it uses cables
instead of vacuum lines to control the flaps so you'll either need to pull
your dash and swap out the heater box for the non-a/c one or you'll have
to fabricate something.

Also the non-a/c models only had 3 fan speeds. The wiring to the blower
motor and resistor pack is different.

Basically, it's a huge PITA. Much easier to just repair the control head
you have now. Lube it and re-attach detacted linkage.

It's not your climate control unit that is causing that to happen.

It is either the heater valve or the control cable for the heater valve.
The hot-cold lever on the control unit pushes and pulls a solid cable
through a plastic sheath that runs through the dash and out the firewall
where it is clipped on to the heater valve. When it's on cold, it closes
the heater valve, blocking coolant flow to the heater core. When it's on
hot, it opens the heater valve to let hot coolant get to the heater core.
The cable could be broken (more likely one of the clips has slipped or
come off on either end of it) or the valve itself could be rotted out. The
good news it the new valves are only like $8 and all you have to do to
replace it is drain the coolant, unclamp both ends of the old valve and
clamp the hoses on to the new one.

Easy fix.
