Any engine will run faster at idle as you advance the ignition (in my =
experience up to at least 18deg) , but the rest of the advance curve =
will be wrong.
Changing idle timing also changes WOT timing, good for idle, too much =
for power, so set it to factory specs.

Ok, here goes my new problem: I put my rebuilt '84 JH 8v in, aligned =
the cam, flywheel, and intermediate shafts as best I could(pretty damn =
close) before putting the timing belt on. Now the engine runs, and I =
broke out the timing light to fine tune it. Now when I time it so that =
the flywheel mark is on the tranny notch with the timing light, it runs, =
but a little funny. Turning the distrib a little to the left makes it =
idle faster, and AFAIK it idles better too. So is the mark on my =
flywheel the "absolute" best timing I'm going to get? Or should I set =
the distrib by ear, waiting until I get to the idle's peak? Thanks in =
advance-

  Rob
