Pump should not be noisy.  I bought my car with 83k on the clock and the 
fuel pump was always audible.  Last year it got super loud on the way to ND. 
  I changed the pump and I can barely hear it now.  I changed the transfer 
pump first but it made no difference.

My main pump had gotten to the point that it was actually rattling!
