Doesn't have to be that huge!

If you were able to see daylight in there, you have about 0 chance that the 
car will run.

That's your problem from the sound of it.  Try to start the car with a new 
one on there before you kill yourself checking the timing belt.

And why you going through so much trouble to check the belt this 
way?  Couldn't you just have taken the upper cover off without doing all 
that other shit?
