Retrofitting a 02 sensor

I'm starting to gather parts for my JN block/JH head conversion, and was
wondering about the O2 sensor.  I'm going to be using my existing CIS
(non-lambda) and currently I have no way monitor a/f ratio.  So, I want to
install a O2 sensor that I can monitor with a meter and/or guage.  What I
was wondering is if I could drill and tap a hole in my downpipe.  I was
thinking about using the area near the bend at the bottom where the 2->1
transition is.  Do you think there is enough metal there for the sensor to
bite on, or do I need to get a nut welded on there?
