Headliner group buy?

My fiancé were discussing the Scirocco this evening, and a thought
occurred to me. I am going to be designing a new headliner using the
old one as a pattern, and then she is going to sew it out of some
nice leather. So it occurred to me that if a lot of people were
interested in something like this, we could probably rent a heavy
duty sewing machine, and crank out several of these things for those
who would want them. The catch is that I can not get the headliner
out intact without first removing the window seals, and replacing
those is quite expensive!

So, here is the thought: If I could get enough people who wanted one
of these at a reasonable price, I might just make enough to pay for
the window seals on top of the equipment time and materials.

So that begs a few of questions:

1: Would anyone on this list be interested in buying a custom fit,
high grade leather headliner for their Scirocco?

2: What color would you want?

3: How much would you be willing to pay? (I only ask this question
because I have not yet looked at material costs or equipment rental,
so it would be good to have some baseline so I can judge if this is
economically feasible or not. I assure you, if I can bring it in
under what everyone is willing to pay, and still make enough to cover
my window seals on top of what it will cost me to make them, I will
certainly pass that savings on to the group.)

I realize that this is riding the thin line between a personal post
and a commercial post since I am talking about making some sort of
profit off this, but I am really trying to do this as a service to
the list. I am going to be putting in the work anyway and making one
for myself, it's just that if I know for sure that I can recover the
cost of the window seals, then I could start on it immediately,
otherwise it might be a year or more before I get around to doing it.









The goal is to overcome the deliberate nature of the process.
