If you've got a garage it's a simple job though

 You need heavy-duty snap ring plyers, that

A peice of steel flat stock bent into a square "U" works great.  I made one
for both diameter flanges.
A set of triple squares should almost be mandatory to own a VW.

I believe it's 10mm.  Your best bet is take a bolt with 10mm thread and see
if it goes in, if not it's 8mm..   Then go buy a peice of threaded metric
rod in that diameter.  I paid around $4 for a 3' peice; can't beat that.
