Depending on how much $$ they give you to fix the thing, it could end up
being your best option. However, it's a very big risk. The motor could be
wrecked, and if the insurance company doesn't pay to have all the little
things fixed, you'll end up worse off than before. Also worse off than if
you had just cut your losses and accepted the payoff.

Probably your best bet. You really have to assume the engine is toast...
it sucks to have to abandon a car you've put so much time and $$ into,
believe me, but 4 or 5 months from now you'll be happy you did. Especially
if you're patient and wait for a really sweet 16v to come up for grabs...
As far as your parts go, see if you can arrange to swap your OE stuff back
on to the car before you let the insurance company have it. Odds are they
won't give a flying f*ck, so long as you replace what you take with
something else. When my baby got written off, I asked the guy if I could
take a "few" things off it, and he said (basically) "I don't give a shit
what you take, so long as the car still has 4 wheels, all the glass, seats,
body panels, etc on it".
