I'd offer her $400.....who knows.  I'm cheap like that.  Point out all of the
probmems you can see....let her know you are vw knowledgeable and how bad her
car really looks.  Anywho,  then you can go out and find a really sweet one
that somebody has actually taken care of.  You'll then have a great car with
a parts car just in case.  Be patient.  There aren't a lot of em still out
there but you will find one in time. Good Luck.
