Personal Experience time:

Purchased a Silver, 5speed, '81 in San Jose, Ca in the first part of Dec, 97.

Sticker asked $995. Talked him down to $850. (Was way too easy, could have
been lower.)

Car has 95K miles +/-. no crashes, a worn out, mismatched, lowered suspension.

Over all, for a 16 year old car it was kept up well.

I'd say go for it. Wrange your best deal.

As to Auto --> 5speed transformation- Every one says it's very involved, that
you need to have a mostly whole car to pull from, etc.
