Mark, I think you got it backwards. Hes putting a GLi 16V engine into an A-1
car. 
I changed the chasis to an A2 and looks like this:

"The engine itself will fit but you'll need the manifold, throttle body
and fuel system from the A2 to make it all work. Also the A2 wiring
harness and computer brain."

Im 16V clueless as to what is needed to do the swap into an A1. I do know
they fit and work since I have seen and raced against a few Rabbit swaps. To
me it seems like alot of needless headache since you can get more HP/Torque
from a 10-1 compression motor with much less hassle. Its your project, good
luck!
