Are you saying my 16v sucks?? Huh?? =) j/k

Indeed he can.. From what I know heres the explination:
The 8v uses 2 valves per cylinder, 1 intake, 1 exaust (duh..)
This means they are 2 big 'ol valves. This means when stuff is sitting at
idle the 2 valves can get more air in/out to begin with then the 16v. Once
the 16v's 4 smaller valves begin to really more air (6k rpm as per your
example) it has much better air flow properties. (you know that the engine
is a big air pump.. thanks to shawn for that analogy)

pretty much, yes. But that says nothing for modified cars. Shawn's 8v may
put you to shame at any rpm, but then again a well
modified/ported/polished/etc 16v is a beautiful thing.

It will hurt your clutch more then the tranny. Those gears are pretty good
in the vw trannys. They had other probs though that don't relate to popping
the clutch. From my and my friends experiences the clutch can be used up
quickly if you use it hard. But on the other hand i know people that have
had ONE clutch for 160k miles. If you make a habit of punching it and
dropping it away from stoplights, plan on getting a 40k mile change.
 Otherwise they're damn tough.
