16v ECU/hardware swap or Megasquirt?

Couldn't agree more. You just want the thing to run, right? Sure you'll get some more power out of it with MS, but for a daily,
its just not worth the headache.

Preventative maintenance: heavy duty zip tie around the dizzy will reinforce the connector, holding it flush against the dizzy
housing. This trick works even if the connector is broken (so long as the wires are still intact).

That would kill MS as well.

Ditto.

OK, I'll correct - it's not gravity that the plate works against, it's fuel pressure. That is also the beauty of the system - if
fuel pressure is off slightly, the plate naturally moves to compensate. It's actually the beauty of BOSCHs design that makes it so
bulletproof. Most issues that come about are related to the emmisions add-ons they were forced to add.

Theres a surprising number of early high-end cars that used some form of CIS.

Hmm... None of mine do. Do we need a tech procedure on this one?
