ABA turbo question again

Points well taken.

Dan, couldn't playing with the ignition timing help gain back some of the
low end torque that is missed from the lower CR? Wouldn't that help with
the sluggishness before boost?

Decking a 16V head isn't a good idea from my point of view. The intake valve
seats are very close to the deck on a stock head.
As far as machining the pistons, I think that sort of defeats the purpose of
combining an 8V block with a 16V head, which is a cheap way of lowering the
CR, even if it isn't exactly the CR you'd like. The cost of machining the
pistons, plus new rings and various bottom end gaskets can add up pretty
quick.

If you just wanted to run a 9A and lower the CR, of course you can install
new pistons, but again it's going to cost a lot more money than the
cheapassed 8V block, 16V head route. Forged pistons, bore the block,
gaskets, etc, etc.....
just my .02
