Welding, How did people learn?

I took a welding class last fall. It helped alot and I would do it again.
The class I took was a night class at a local vocational school. We did
some basic safety stuff and then just started welding. When we had
questions or problems we looked up the teacher and he would explain things
to us.

I'm hoping I'll be able to take another one this year. Got an aluminum
intake manifold I want to make. 8-)

Nice because for the $175 I get to use their equipment and expendables and
weld what I want!!!!

Classes are good to help you understand the little important things like
someone else already listed. Thickness, types of joints and metals, but you
really need to weld and weld and weld to get good at it. The more you weld
the better you'll get.

I vote for taking the class.

my $.02
