Welding, How did people learn?

I'm still a noob at welding, but we have one at our shop so whenever the chance comes around to weld something, I do it. It's a basic Hobart 220 MIG. We are running flux-core wire as we have no shielding gas, so I've never welded any other way. I guess I'm pretty good, most of the time my welds look better than the other two guys who have been doing it longer. I've wanted to take a class at our local Career Center but I've just not had the time.

I'm not sure about other places, but I've heard good things about the classes offered here in town, I guess there is a lot of hands-on which I think is 90% of it. Welding is not something that can easily be described, but once you pick up the torch and see how it works, it all sinks in. (at least that's the way it was with me)
