one more problem with breaks

Just going to pool answers.

I've found the group to be pretty helpful when my e-mail actually gets
through the server but usually when it gets bounced it tells me it was
bounced and I don't get the e-mail in my list folder. This time I got
both those previous mails from the list server. BTW, the gist of the
previous mails is "Done with breaks/suspension, but with new battery and
cables I have no power", and "My fault it wouldn't start, but it turned
on. The half tank of gas is 1.5 years old but it works. Here is a list
of stuff I still need to do..."

My personal archives don't go back all that far due to a reformat and
reinstalling everything. I don't remember anyone asking about their
parking break not working in recent history either.

The shoes are making contact with the drum on the passenger side but it
can still be turned by hand with the car on jacks. The driver side, with
the cable adjustment at almost all the way and lever pulled as far as it
should go will spin freely. The pedal stops both sides. The cable clip
is clamped down on both sides but that wire coil thing won't keep the
the rubber spacer in place at all.

My personal experience with breaks is almost none. I'm leaching off of
my dads experience (off roading in a jeep with a bunch of friends) and
the bently.

I had replaced the wheel cylinders while doing a break job and I have no
idea when the last time they were bled is but the old fluid is pretty
cloudy. Before we parked it the breaks were really mushy and the front
pads really needed to be replaced. After bleeding the rear the pedal
firmed up quite a bit. The wheel cylinders, cables, and springs in the
breaks are all new. I have new shoes but the current ones have just
about the same amount of meat as the new ones.

I'll get a pic tomorrow and stick it on my photobucket. I'm sure
everything is put together right but I may be overlooking something simple.
