That is total BS.  He can't call it a total unless there is
a stated value of the car.  I would try and get a couple
more values of similar cars to throw at him.  Your car is
an above average '82 and therefore worth more than a few
hundred bucks.

You don't have to settle or sign anything until you're
satisfied.  It was the OTHER guy that hit you, it was HIS
fault, and it is THEIR responsibility to either a:  fix
your car to pre-accident condition or b: replace your car. 
That is the catch - you need to show him how much it's
going to cost to replace the car.

Good info to have.  Just the fact that an internet search
is proving it difficult to find a similar car means yours
is more valuable.  It wouldn't hurt to have this info handy
AND your stacks of receipts, pictures over the years etc.

DLX = Deluxe.  I've never quite figured this out on the
Scirocco, some are titled that way.  Not sure what's up
with the GL thing either.
