Car No Go

I had a similar problem when my wiriing was acting up.
It happened that the warm up regulator was receiving steady power, not
switched off with the ignition.
That made the regulator think the motor was in warm mode and adjusted
the pressure accordingly.
It was with great difficulty and rough driving before the motor would
start, once warm it was fine.

Aside from the tests that Brett has suggested, you might also have a
warm up regulator (WUR) going bad.
A bad WUR would not necessarily cause the car not to start, but will
cause a poor idle on cold engine.
You could also have a bad cold start injector or thermo-time switch.
If you have a Bentley the tests for the CIS, and in particular the cold
start components, is pretty straight forward.
