Solder, Crimp or Screw terminals?

So is it the PH of the rosin that causes corrosion? If I don't use any, would that be OK?  I'm good with stuffing some dielectric grease around the joint when it is done.  I too have found heatshrink to be a big expensive dissapointment on jobs like this.
