I dunno, VW (owner of Bugatti) built the Veyron as a display of engineering 
according to that "Top Gear" video that was posted here last week.  VW sells 
the car for less than the cost to produce it.   Hmmm, maybe that's why the 
new Golf/Passat/Toureg costs so much.
