sluggish scirocco (or light desert breeze)

Re 8v timing:

Some random thoughts.

- The cam timing mark is on the INNER face of the
'gear', not any mark on the outside face. It lines up
with, not the top of the cover, but the top of the
head.

- The car is a four cycle motor, not a two cycle.
Perhaps things are not truly Top Dead Center on
Cylinder One when you think it is.

- You'll likely find Joy with pulling the Distributor
out all together when you are getting thinks lined up.
(I know, I know).

- The Timing Belt moves when you put the right tension
on things. I forget which side of the belt, the front
portion of the part looped over the back, you will
want to keep tight as you put it in place. Lets
rephrase that: When you lay the Timing Belt over the
Crank and Cam Gears you will need to consider keeping
one side of it taught and note how this affects the
cam timing as you tighten the Tension. (I used to be a
lot better at this, but I'm rusty.)

- A Timing Light is a beautiful Thing. Esp one with
adjustable Advance settings.
