Keep an ear to the fuel pump for a while, gas keeps them lubricated, but it
doesn't sound like yours ran long dry.

Yeah, I'm the same, I drove the MkI for its little surgery, and even with
it running poorly, it's still a joy. So I forge on towards getting it to
run well.
