You said it rattles too much.

I also love the TDI.  Everything else Eric said is true, no problems 
starting in Minnesota cold.  My experience is with a low mileage 2000 
Golf but you know what they say about diesels:  mileage, mileage, 
mileage.  (In that they get great mileage for a long time.)
