That 26k Mk2 on Ebay - SOLD for $8,300!!!

I have printed out this ebay auction for my files. Here's why:

When I was rear-ended ("sandwiched", rather) two years ago, I of course
went through all the rigamarole of trying to prove to the other guy's
insurance that my car was in "Premium, show-quality" condition. At
first they offered me a high blue book (US ~$2500) but I say no way... I
spent a week putting together a *nice* binder full of pics, receipt
tallies, repair and purchase documents, aftermarket goodies, and lots
of .org classified listings. I highlighted the top-dollar Sciroccos and
parts offered for sale to justify my position. This was not merely a
jumble of papers; it was made to be "presented" to the insurace co. and
even contained a short introductory essay that I wrote describing how
people like us call ourselves "Scirocco Nuts" (noun or adjective, take
your pick). They even sent out an independent appraiser to look at my
damaged goods. In the end they offered just over US $4K, which not only
did I take, but was just a tad over my original purchase price as well
(not including the shipping from CT to OR). I bought the salvage back
for US $66.00 (no joke!) and then promptly dumped all that money into
getting it put back together.

I'm _almost_ back to where I want to have the car appraised again - this
time with the car looking stellar. But all those documents and pics
generated from the new resto go into that file, and I think that ebay
auction printout will add nicely to the collection the _next_ time I'm
sandwiched!
