newbie here well kind of

$1000 for a good condition MKI is not bad... to bad it's only a MKI since 
MKII's are sooooo much better in my opinion (Julie).

No seriously... everyone is right and these motors, especially the 8V's are 
bulletproof... 70K is just broken in! I had 225K on my '84 8V and it still 
pulled like a freight train, it wasn't exactly stock but it never needed to 
have the head removed or any internal repairs. solid motor.

I'd say if it's straight and rust free you should pick it up or ship it to 
me in California... I like that color, Cosmos Silver, for an 'S
