1.8t engine setup pictures



The big stuff (actually mounting the engine in the car) probably isn't that
big of a deal here. The 020 will bolt to the 1.8T and you can use the
flywheel and clutch setup (upgraded of course) off the Scirocco. I'm pretty
sure the existing engine mounts will bolt on. (judging from the pictures of
the mounts off Josh's car from Cincy 2002). So, bolting the engine in is no
big deal. And if you use the AEB (i.e. not the transverse 1.8T) then even
the water pump is the same so the coolant hoses should be pretty easy.
But, if you're going to fab all the rest yourself, I'm here to tell you that
there is more stuff you have to fab than you can imagine when you start the
project. And all the fittings and flanges and tubes and pipes and bolts and
gaskets will add up to way more than you thought. So be forewarned!
Wiring will also be a major issue! Wiring in aftermarket engine management
is straight forward although time consuming. Wiring in the 1.8T engine
management has got to be painful cause first you have to figure out what
wire goes where and does what!
Josh also has a very good point in that you should figure out where you're
going to go with turbo and engine management before you start. No sense
putting on a T3/T4 without the right chip/management.
One other word of caution. Rely on ATP (www.vwturbo.com) as little as
possible! Especially their chips! They may seem like the only game in town,
but they really are idiots!
The 1.8T is an awesome engine and can make gobs of power, but what's the big
deal when you can make more power even from an 8V turbo than the Scirocco
can use?
