Knock Sensor Question

The green one (hole is offset) is the older unit, the black one (round) is the later
unit.  From the research I did on them last summer for my ABA/JH swap I seem to recall
that you had to use the knock sensor that was used with the particular knock box.  For me
that meant using the older green one with an 86 GTI RD/HT code knock box.  

I'll look through my gathered "pile" of VW related information to see if I can find out
the details...
