A/C compressors

The compressor on my wifes 86 automatic is NOTHING like the one on my 85
manual or like the one illustrated in my Haynes book. My wifes is more
cylindrical, much like a starter casing. Any clues? There's a compressor
from an 83 manual trans on ebay I was thinking of buying to replace my wifes
cuz it's ceased up. Thanks.
