Turning Rocc into an Azteca :o)



Hmm, interesting idea - for the Rabbit.

Pick up trucks, Aztecas, station wagons etc. are reinforced for that
tailgate. Example, if the manufactures were to build those vehicles without
the tail gates, they would allow some portion of the body/frame to become
smaller and less rigid since they could then depend upon the body for
support. None of these vehicles utilize a "clamping" mechanism to use the
tail gate as a structural member. I don't believe that clamping the tail
gate in for use as a structural member will work. You will have to increase
the structural rigidity somewhere else. Maybe you will have to plate the
floor between the shock towers or some thing. Ask a M E, there must be a few
here on the list. Now about the latches, consider the simple mechanism found
in a pick up. It is so simple that you could easily make it solenoid
operated so that there would be no visible latch on the outside.

Cool idea, keep running with this.
