JE Pistons & block assembly

JE rings will DEFINITELY need to be filed. Mine had zero gap out of the box.

Hmmm...I've NEVER heard that before. It wasn't mentioned in the books I
read. And I definitely don't know everything about engine building, but I
don't understand why that would happen either.

Any oil on top of the rings will get burned in combustion. Any oil between
the rings is MEANT to be there, right? Or are those not oil galleys in the
piston that exit between the rings? And of course the oil sprayers (if you
have them) will spray the bottom of the pistons, feeding those galleys. How
does some oil on the rings during assembly harm things, exactly?

Anyway, I hope my engine still breaks in OK! After only 100 miles, it
doesn't seem to consume any real amounts of oil, considering I know I have a
slight gasket leak and that they're forged pistons...

Yup. Yup. Yup!
