I picked up a 2.0l 16v motor (with a Passat arround it)

honestly, its a straight swap. no tricks. no gimmicks. everything bolts
straight up. as long as your other accessories are in good shape (water
pump, clutch, etc), you just field strip the 1.8 block, put the 2.0 block in
its place, and put it all back together.

also realize that if any accessories/seals/gaskets/clutch are in
questionable shape, that would be the primo time to replace them all, as
they will all be removed anyhow.
