You could also use high-temp powdercoating first. A cheaper and more durable alternative to POR-15 I would think.

If you do the wrap you might investigate some type of POR-15
undercoating to ward off corrosion. 

With the heat it might flake off if not held in place but might be the
tip any ways.

I like the coating thing but how much does it cost?
