dead scirocco!

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm going to call it a night and work on it
again tomorrow. I think it's the Hall Sender. I've tested just about
everything else, so I'm going to replace it. The manual said the coil
should read between .5 and .8 ohms between the outer terminals of the coil.
The reading I got was around 1.5. That doesn't seem like a big deal and
like you pointed out, it would probably be pretty unlikely for the coil to
just go like that. Incidentally, while I was waiting to meet the tow truck,
I called a local import garage just in case it was something I couldn't
handle, to find out if these people would work on the car. (My local
Volkswagen mechanic got out of the business). When I told the first guy
what kind of car it was he said, "Oh yeah, I've seen those before but never
worked on one. Let me get Bob." Bob then got on the phone and said, "Uhh,
never touched one, let me ask Sam... Hey Sam, you know anything about
Scirocco's" Sam responded, "Yeah I think I did some work on one once." Bob
said, bring it on down. And I decided, uhh, I think I'll do the work
myself. I know at least as much about my car if not more than these guys
do.
