A little smoke

Congrats on the successful transplant! I wouldn't worry about a little
smoke, especially if it's just being started. When I put my motor in,
all the penetrating oil that was on everything including the exhaust
manifold and downpipe smoked for a while.

Wouldn't worry about the fuel either. Yes, top it off with premium.
You might consider premium as your fuel of choice assuming your using
the knock box with your 16v. I've noticed intitial spark knock (about 1
sec.) followed by a loss of power as the computer retards the timing
with 87 octane. 93 works much nicer.
