opening the hood is a 2 person job

yup, its the good ol' smack the hood with the palm of your hand as you're pulling the release trick.
open door, stand in doorway such that you can get the lever with you're right while smacking the
part of the hood (near you) with the left. it should get it to pop up.
if its so bad that it doesnt even pop up you need to clean/lube/align the hood pins.
