Engine Problems

Rick,
    I hate to say this, but my first 16v did this. Is it like you hit the
gas, the intake sound changes as if you hot the gas, but the engine just
doesnt rev? It does it a bit worse when hot as well? Mine did it for several
months until it finally started getting worse VERY quickly (i.e. over a 10
mile period), to the point where w.o.t. was necessary to keep going down the
road. One mile later and it was dead. From that point on it would start +
idle when cold but lost it as it warmed up. The result: bad rings. Do a dry
compression check and be prepared for the worst.
