starting problems

<P>yeah, it turns over but slowly like you said it sounds strongest when you first turn the key but gets weaker if you hold it in. Oh, and another thing is i was lookin at the connections to the starter and i saw smoke, or maybe steam where the positve cable connects, if that means anything at all to ya. And one last thing, i think it may be a junk starter and the guy i bought it from thought it was the fuel pump relay that was causing the hard starting but i replaced it with the scirocco one but didn't fix it.</P>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;jumping it from a larger vehicle? If that doesn't work, The starter 
<DIV></DIV>&gt;brushes might be bad. I think the rocco starter might bolt in, as 
<DIV></DIV>&gt;long as the trannies are similar (one's not auto/ four-speed, etc.)

<DIV></DIV>&gt;over a couple of times very slowly, then I would hear a strange 
<DIV></DIV>&gt;sound like a metal plate slipping off another. If any of this makes 
<DIV></DIV>&gt;sense, let me know how it goes.
