Depends on how the spring is wound. If there is a sharp transition in
the winding and it is correctly designed for the application all the
tight coils will bind from the weight of the car and it will be
effectively single rate.

Actually, you'll only lower the car the thickness of one coil because
with the weight of the car on the spring all the close coils are tight
against each other.

I disagree. The whole purpose of the tight coils is to keep the spring
seated with the suspension extended and if the spring is even half close
to being correctly designed for the application it will not be loose in
the seat. I suspect that they are not tight in this application due to
the fact they are A2 springs on an A1.

Personally, I think it's pathetic the extent to which people will
sacrifice function so their car looks "kewl". But, I think Vinny should
go for it. Cut the coils off the tight end of the spring until it's the
height you want it. As a matter of fact, if you were close you could
stop by and I'd just torch those babies with them on the car! Quick and
simple. And more than accurate enough for the desired end result.
