Prep work for painting

The first question you should answer is are keeping the stock color? If so,
you shouldn't even need primer except over your bondo patches (or none, if
you're lucky enough not to have any...)

Are you removing your windows, lights, bumpers and body kit? You'd better if
you're talking about "doing a better job"....

1) Pre-sand it with 120-240 and grind out all rust down to the metal with a
wire wheel

2) Wet-sand with 600 and wash. Dry with Chamois.

3) Primer (2 light coats), if necessary

4) AT LEAST 3 coats of color. Add more to your desired comfort level.
Wet-sand with 600 and wash GENTLY with non-organic sponge.

5) AT LEAST 2 coats of clear. Again, add more to your desired comfort level.
Wet-sand with 1200 and wash GENTLY with non-organic sponge.
