yeah 2 things it can be, the resistor or just crap loaded back there with
the blower motor preventing connection (trust me you will be amazed at the
amount of crap you will fuind stuffed around your blower motor)

open hood, pull hood strip and raintray out of the way

do you see that big bulging black thing in there... its under that! Start by
taking the passenger side front under glove box felt panel out and you will
have to start finding the screws that hold the left side (the one with the
air entry square opening (the unit is actually 2 peices) once you have
removed that side, you need to access from under the driver side (and its a
pain in the arse but not that bad once you figure it out) and pop the air
blower "tunnel" black boxx out of the rain tray. Then its easy it just sits
there in your face. Remember to check your felt that joins/seals that black
box to the car, its a cause of leaks after a while, I used Local FLAPS
automotive foam door self adehise tape, worked like a charm (even got rid of
a whistle I had going at 80MPH on the highway. (grin)

  Subject: Heater Blower question?

I have officially gotten tired of having only 3rd speed on my heater and I
want to fix it. I have tried changing the switch but that didn't work. I
have been told by my friend that it could be the resistor, but I figure I
would get some other suggestions before changing it. Also is it anything
hard to change? From the looks of what the Bentley says it seems really easy
being that it is right under the rain tray (he told me it was in the dash
somewhere, but he is thinking of a GTI I think) Anyway any suggestions
appreciated.
  Thanks,
       Randy
