Re: Overbore w/ stock pistons?



I don't want to be too negative, but any process  that polishes removes
metal! Maybe not a lot, but polishing sure doesn't add metal! Running a hone
up and down the bore for a short period can easily open the bore .001"
depending stone grit and tension of the hone.
The shop manual specifies maximum piston to cylinder clearance. Spec on new
parts is 0.001" clearance. Wear limit is 0.0025" clearance, so you can only
remove an additional 0.0015" and still be in spec. This amount of material
removal isn't going to clean up much bore damage and your bores may already
be at the clearance limit just due to normal wear.
I've seen engines that were honed out substantially to clean up bore damage,
but the engine's going to burn oil and the pistons and rings won't last long
due to the fact the piston can cock in the bore.
