I'm about 6'2 and my shifter was cut down when I bought the car a few years
back, with a (red!) tall anatomic knob.  My experience was the same
as Rich's - it was stiff and notchy and difficult to row, despite freshly
rebuilt shift linkage, with the shorter shifter.  Also as far back as I sit
it made it an uncomfortable reach to 3rd and 5th.  I've since replaced the
cut shifter with a stock one, plopped a Kamei golf ball knob on top, and
I'm much happier.  YMMV, as the varied comments to this topic show.
