Alignment Spec's

Can't tell you what people are using, but here are the specs for a MKII
(same for MKI I'm pretty sure).

Front Wheels:
_________________
Caster: +1°50' ±30' [note: caster is "not adjustable", but the info is
here anyway]
Corresopnding camber change from 20° left lock to 20° right lock: 1°15'
±20'
Max permissible difference between sides: 1°
_________________
Camber: +20' ±30'
Max difference between sides: 1°
_________________
Toe: Total toe: -15' ±10'
Toe angle difference at 20° lock (each side, wheels not pressed) -1°30' ±30'

Rear Axle:
_________________
Camber: -1°15' ±35'
Max difference between sides: 40'
_________________
Toe: total: +20' ±30'
Maximum permissible deviation from driving direction: 30'

There you go. These are the "stock" specs on the car, and I think most of
us would agree that they are ultra-conservative. An autocrosser recently
advised me to use 2° front camber and 1.5° rear, but noted that the car will
feel somewhat twitchy on the highway and will wear tires unevenly. So you
don't want to go that far. If you just used the spec (-20') with it's
tollerance (-30') that would give you 50', or 5/6ths of a degree, and that
shouldn't be radical at all I wouldn't think. My alignment is all screwed
up so I can't give you real experience on my Scirocco.

Sincerely;

Brian Haygood
