That's pretty bad. I drive my 87 16v damn hard. Once it's warmed up I'm full 
throttle through all the gears until I hit coasting speed (OK, so that's a 
slight exaggeration, but something like that)

Anyway, my point is that I get 28 MPG.

I'd check out why your mileage is bad. Check O2 sensor, DPR current, plugs, 
etc. Do general tune up tasks. Does the car drive well, or is it low on 
power?
